How can a tech giant like Microsoft better support Spanish start-ups and SaaS companies in the cloud? That was the central question behind the Master in International Management project with Microsoft, where students tackled real business challenges using real-world strategy and marketing tools.

A Real Business Challenge for Future Global Leaders

As part of their Project-Based Learning (PBL) experience, students worked alongside Microsoft Spain to explore how the company can empower Independent Software Vendors (ISVs), SaaS Start-Ups, and Scale-Ups within the Azure ecosystem.

The challenge required students to understand Microsoft’s business purpose, stakeholder needs, and both internal and external environments. Applying insights from strategic and marketing management courses, they worked through three sprints, each with its own focus and deliverables.

Sprint by Sprint: From Insight to Impact

Sprint 1 – Understand the Landscape

Students began by conducting a full analysis of the Spanish tech environment. They examined competitors, customer segments, and Microsoft Spain’s internal capabilities.

Sprint 2 – Map the Market

The next phase focused on identifying and categorizing promising start-ups, SaaS companies, and digital natives. Students assessed their needs and how Microsoft can address them.

Sprint 3 – Build the Strategy

In the final sprint, students proposed tailored strategies to increase Azure adoption. They designed promotional actions, communication plans, and incentives aligned with Microsoft’s goals.

Learning by Doing, the Advantere Way

This Master in International Management project with Microsoft wasn’t just about tech or marketing, it was about translating insight into action. Students delivered a final presentation to Microsoft Spain executives, demonstrating their ability to think strategically, act globally, and collaborate effectively.
