How can we put a number on social impact? That’s what students set out to explore in the Master in Finance project with tuTECHÔ, a Social Impact Project developed under Advantere’s Project-Based Learning (PBL) methodology.

A Real Estate Challenge with a Human Focus

tuTECHÔ is not a conventional real estate company. Its mission is to provide sustainable housing solutions for those who have been left behind, people without access to safe shelter. With this in mind, students from the Master in Finance were invited to take on three interconnected challenges:

  • Valuing tuTECHÔ’s real estate portfolio
  • Quantifying its social impact
  • Analyzing and benchmarking its operational cost structure against other real estate companies

These tasks required both technical precision and a deep understanding of the relationship between business, society, and purpose.

Turning Impact Into Data

The Master in Finance project with tuTECHÔ pushed students to find ways to assign value to non-financial outcomes. Concepts like health improvement or employability became metrics, modeled and analyzed with the same rigor as traditional investment indicators.

As student Santiago Suárez shared, “The goal was to put numbers on big ideas, to show that words like social improvement can be measured and valued.”

While sourcing reliable data on social indicators proved challenging, the learning experience was deeply rewarding. “I felt part of something meaningful,” said student Adaliz Leal. “It taught me that impact and profitability can coexist.”

Learning That Goes Beyond the Classroom

This project was made possible through the collaboration of tuTECHÔ’s leadership team, including Javier Pinedo, CFO, and Rocío del Mar, Managing Director. As Rocío reflected: “It’s a huge opportunity for young leaders to dive into the practical world, especially with companies that exist not just for profit, but for the change they create in society.”

The project was tutored by María Folqué, PhD in Asset Management and professor at Advantere, whose guidance helped students bridge financial knowledge with real social impact.

The Master in Finance project with tuTECHÔ is a clear example of how finance can become a tool for social good, and how education, when rooted in reality, becomes a force for impact.
